divagation: an internal cabaret

A cabaret stage becomes a springboard into the mind
of a reluctant diva when she finds herself unable to escape
her own performance. Fabulously sparkly, sharply funny,
and vividly human, "divagation: an internal cabaret"
is a theatrical spiral into human perception,
misplaced fear, and the flexibility of reality.

The band for "divagation", now dubbed "The Tuesday Night Trio", is a new collaboration of artists that have worked together on various projects for a number of years. They first came together in different combinations as musicians, but previous projects have been largely very traditional and straightforward. Pianist Miles Graber and singer Lara Bruckmann regularly work together as a classical recital team. In September of 2002 and of 2003, the were joined by bassist David Arend to play cabaret sets at San Francisco's Plush Room, and through these performances the trio started to develop the score for "divagation". Lara's brother Kyle has just relocated to San Francisco from Chicago and plays accordion in this production. The siblings have discussed theatrical ideas for years but until now have been unable to put them into practice because of geography.

"divagation" hovers at the juncture between experimental theater and new music and seeks to have some impact on the conversation between music and theater, as contemporary artists continue to stretch the tradition once called "opera".
