A story:

On Saturday night, June 14th, 2003, over dinner at a café in the rural Italian village of Monterosso al Mare and under a full moon reflected on the Mediterranean Sea, Jay proposed marriage and Lara accepted. The couple is happily planning a wedding for Summer 2004 and have painted the bathroom bright orange.

Or alternately:

On Saturday night, June 14th, cranky and sweaty from a day of hiking and quite drunk on cheap wine, Lara told Jay to ask, so he asked, and then she made him go find her a ring despite the fact that the only three shops still open at 11pm were trying to shoo away the tourists and close. He found a ring (it's green), and then they danced on the train platform.

Both are true.

About Lara:

Lara is a singer/actor. Thought that while she was already busy what with planning a wedding and all, hey, wouldn't it be fun to write a cabaret and premiere it the same summer. Therefore, Lara is quitting her day job. She teaches voice lessons at home, both because she loves it and to stave off financial disaster. Leo, Aries rising.

About Jay:

Jay is a studying social welfare at Berkeley, and should be pretty much done with his dissertation next year. He's decided that the guidelines for diagnosing mental illness are all wrong and so has set out to change them. This may take a while. Aquarius, though usually forgets his birthday.

Another story:

Once upon a time, Jay was a teenager in Spring, Texas. Jay's sister Kay (yes, we know, J, K...) was good friends with a guy named Mike. They even went to prom together. Then Mike went to college at Rice. He met a girl named Lara and they took a shine to one another, but like many young loves, it didn't last long. Jump ahead about ten years. Mike, Jay, and Lara all live in SF Bay Area. Mike and partner Shum (another old Rice buddy) introduce Jay and Lara, and even chaperone their first date. Jay is impressed that Lara matches his martini count, and they keep dating. Clearly, all goes well enough from there.
